The series follows very rich person playboy Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), who professed to have gone through five years wrecked on Lian Yu, a strange island in the North China Sea, before getting back to Starling City (later renamed "Star City") to battle wrongdoing and debasement as a mystery vigilante whose weapon of decision is a bow and arrow. In the first season, Oliver comes back to Starling City and is brought together with his mom, Moira (Susanna Thompson), his sister, Thea (Willa Holland), and his companion, Tommy Merlyn (Colin Donnell). Oliver revives his connections, while going through his evenings chasing down and once in a while executing criminals as a hooded vigilante, known as The Hood. He reveals Malcolm Merlyn's (John Barrowman) scheme to crush "The Glades", a more unfortunate area of the city that has become abrogated with wrongdoing. John Diggle (David Ramsey) and Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) help Oliver in his campaign. Oliver likewise reconnects with ex, Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy), who is as yet irate over his job in her sister, Sara's, assumed passing, while her dad, Detective Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne), suspects Oliver being the vigilante. The season highlights flashbacks to Oliver's first year on the island, and how it transformed him, while attempting to stop a hired fighter power focusing on the Chinese economy. In the wake of being spared by The Hood, Roy Harper (Colton Haynes) endeavors to discover him so he will prepare him so he can help other people.
